BULIMIA NERVOSA - SYMPTOMS, HELP & TREATMENT
IAre interested in help & treatment for Bulimia Nervosa.
Bulimia Nervosa
A condition in people of both normal or excess weight where there is recurrent binge or overeating followed by harmful and dangerous weight control practices to prevent weight gain. These practices include using laxatives or diuretics, vomiting, detoxing, slimming pills and excessive exercise. There is also an over-preoccupation with and concern about body image, weight and shape.
Stable & Chaotic Bulimia
Bulimia can express itself in many ways. Some people are able to eat normally some of the time and have episodes of binge eating and purging. In extreme cases there is no structure at all to eating and vomit many times each day. Some people with bulimia may take a few laxatives every day and in extreme cases have been known to take up to 600 at a time.
Atypical Bulimia
A person who does not purge regularly or who does not necessarily binge but gets rid of a normal meal to try to lose weight is “atypical” – but needs as much help & treatment as everyone else with the illness.
Being Bulimic
This is what people say life is like with bulimia:
- I feel scared about everyday food situations that other people can deal with like going to restaurants or social occasions. I desperately need help.
- I think about my weight all the time, feeling fat and ugly
- Purging helps me feel instantly thin
- Food is always on my mind, how to get it, how to get people out of the way, how to avoid it.
- Food is a constant threat, both a friend and a foe.
- I never know when I have had one bite too many, then its got to go
- I may look normal but I feel like a fraud
- Its stressful having this guilty secret that no-one knows about
- I tell myself it’s the last time, but next day is just the same
