Working With Eating Disorders
Working With Eating Disorders is sponsored by the National Centre For Eating Disorders together with Greg Szanto a highly regarded Counsellor and Trainer in Eating Disorders who will present the workshop.
This is an introductory workshop which teaches the theory and practical skills to enable you to recognise and treat eating disorders. The workshop emphasises the importance of looking at each client as a unique person and treating them according to their individual needs.
Recognising the eating disorders includes being aware of the predisposing, precipitating and perpetuating factors in the client. Understanding the conditions includes appreciating the relationship between eating disorders, emotions and body image, and how physiological change prolongs faulty eating behaviour.
Treating the disorders includes building and maintaining rapport with the client, using the information gathered from the client as a diagnostic tool to tailor interventions, case planning, relapse prevention, cognitive and behavioural change, pattern breaking and motivational approaches.
Finally we look at the practitioner’s own relationship with food.
